About to Quit

By February 14, 2017March 14th, 2017Vitamin C

Dear Vitamin C –

I have had the same supervisor for the past 16 years. Lately, I have been feeling like she no longer respects me. She is constantly micro-managing me, which makes me feel like she doesn’t trust my ability to do my work. I am feeling unappreciated and generally burned – out. Is it time for me to look for a new job?

Dear About to Quit –

A good place to start with this decision is to first assess how you feel about your job in general. Would you otherwise be happy if you didn’t have these issues with your boss? The answer will give you more clarity moving forward.

Whether or not your supervisor is the solo problem I highly recommend scheduling a meeting where you can let him/her know how you are feeling. Having a difficult conversation can be hard but it is a huge step in showing up in your life and not letting fear run the show. Confronting the issue doesn’t have to be a soapbox moment it can be quiet and calm. If you don’t know how to start the conversation, I always recommend people lead with their fears. Which can sound like “ I wanted to talk to you about something important but I am worried it is going to come out wrong or that I am going to make the situation worse when my intention is to make it better” etc… Most of the time the fear of it is way worse than the reality, it usually turns out way better than you think. Your supervisor’s reaction to your concerns will add to the clarity of your path moving forward.

Yours – Vitamin C
